Citywide Routine Bridge Inspections

Benesch performs routine bridge inspections on the City of Wauwatosa’s bridge inventory. Using the National Bridge Inventory and Wisconsin protocols, Benesch has performed element-level inspections, stream channel profiles and documented detailed inspection findings in the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Highway Safety Information System database.

The City of Wauwatosa’s bridge inventory includes many structure types, including culverts, multi/single span reinforced concrete slabs, reinforced concrete arches, steel truss pedestrian bridges and multi-span steel tub girders. Several of these are on an annual inspection cycle and require close monitoring of structural deterioration.

To ensure City staff has a solid understanding of the current condition of their structures and to facilitate their maintenance and reconstruction planning, Benesch team leaders meet annually with City staff to go through our inspection findings, recommend future actions and review the City’s planning.
